The list was shorter than expected. "Essential engineers" meant the Olympian team, no more, no less. We were the operators too. Yet there were still many outsiders. Mrs. von Neumann, for one, was the annoying type who would question every single thing that existed on the ship. I sometimes pity Mr. von Neumann.
Then there was General Andrew Evans. Rocky was the perfect middle name for him, with his brawny, unsophisticated appearance, not unlike a boulder. He brought none of his army on board, strangely, since his title of military advisor required an army for himself. Nonetheless it is better that he leaves his soldiers on Earth. I do not wish the new start of mankind to be tainted with blood again.
Not to forget Vine Dion, the entertainment mogul. I bet he meant for this to be a great boost for his V News. Yet we cannot underestimate his influence, or his connoisseurship of wine. He alone brought in more than a hundred bottles of classical wine, half of them as rare and valuable as uranium in their weight.
Other strangers were more amicable, like Alice. Alice Vulcani she was known now, taking the Professor's last name with her instead of her adopted one. The couple had closer bonds as days went by, and this love will fortunately be continued on earth.
Ironically, one of those I consider amicable would be my brother, Escobar Peter Illivich Malkovski. I recall the day when he stole my 'immortality' potion. His utter stupidity sent me over the edge, and I swore to put him to a long sleep when I saw him again. And I did. Luckily Merc with his virtual network located his attempted sales of the potion, and apprehended him in time. Now he laid quietly in the cryogenic chamber, and will well serve my purpose one day, when I need him.
Reading this list made me wonder if it was worth saving all the people. My premonition tells me all of us would be crucial to the future of mankind, however unlikely. We shall see.
Which begs the question: What is the amount of space-time warp needed for cells to sustaina human body? I hope none of them dies because of my solution.
