~ 2:47 PM ~
The rain came. It came at the right time. Before it were probably the dog days, for the heat had boiled the ground and burnt the feet of many. Now it was just right. Thousands of citizens clustered at the Crematorium and the Cemetery to pay respects to the deceased. For they loved the latter when they were alive, and loved them more when they were away.
The largest crowd were right at the last mile of the cemetery. Interestingly, there was only one tombstone, and everyone mourned in front of it. Reading the inscription, one would find that the deceased had been away not too long ago. A citizen would be able to interpret it better. It was the tomb of Mr. Gochasus. There laid the man who rid the government of a militant, and in the place a tyrant.
How many were actually mourning for him? The dark and dull-coloured clothes were a camouflage to the happiness deep in their hearts. People, citizens especially, were here to gloat over his demise. His death had brought freedom and benefits to all free men of the Republic, and who would not consent to that?
"We have come here to commemorate his death, and all that is implied. His past is not worth my words, while his present state is the best he may offer. May he rest in peace and never live." Antonius's words were sharp and swift, just as was his victory in the recent elections. Antonius was Gochasus's greatest rival in the Council, and Antonius's victory implied a downfall of the iron fist and its fingers. Free at last, the people shouted. Free from fear.
And the rain continued.
