"Victory is at hand!" Declared Council
(Time et Meridiana A/A/05 GMT18:00)
For the first time in the short history of the Republic, our army has once again proved invincible. In the brief battle recently, the famed Soc Section, led by General Kun, won the Battle of Kallang, spreading the superiority of the Republic to the rest of the states. However, the army did not move on. "It is our only purpose to defeat the enemy at this outpost, to regain the pride we lost in the last battle," replied Gen. Kun, when asked of the sudden halt in military movement.
The previous battle was a disaster, as many would remember. Our Soc Section met its match during the charge, and was forced to retreat. Taking it as a lesson instead of an end, however, the Soc Section has done us proud and in turn gave the fatal blow in the enemy's face. And we honour the blow, for we have truly a worthy competitor.
Of course, all's fair in love and war, and this war proved to be the irony of the season. Our worthy opponents actually foresaw a victory, and declared a national holiday to be held the day after the battle would end. However, little did they expect that their prediction did not came out as they thought it would be. After the defeat, it was reported that the holiday was cancelled. For the Republic, of course, it was our holiday. Although the holiday was not declared immediately, the citizens were nonetheless glad that an extra day was given for them to rest. War is not all violence and no benefits, as it turns out.
If fellow readers thought our victory was easy, you are terribly wrong. As worthy opponents, the enemy put up a great fight. Our correspondent, "Mr. T", reported the close shaves our army was experiencing. Mr. T described the battle as 'so close to losing that nothing could be seen from the enemy's side of the terrain'. Strong as they were, but arrogant too, and this arrogance brought them to their own demise.
The Battle of Kallang, as it is so fondly named, is referred to as a milestone for the Republic to save the free people of the states, and to spread our influence among them. The Council (both the older and the younger) stated in a speech, during the appreciation lunch held for the outgoing Senate and Council members, that the war was 'done now', and that the Republic will try its best to 'reconcile interstate ties' and engage in 'global diplomacy'. "Victory is at hand!" was the concluding statement made by the spokesman of the Council.
