1st Republic Day Celebrated

Today is the 1st Republic Day that Meridian is celebrating, at the assembly square now named 'Square de Populi' or the 'People's Square'. Hosting the parade in the afternoon was Miss Cal, the President of the post-triarchy Council. The entire procession started off with the People's March done by the various Discipline groups, namely the Republic Armoury and the Provincial Magistrate Houses - Atlas, Callisto, Mirandas, Phobos and Triton. Other performances included musical pieces played and sung by our honourable Concert Band, Chinese Orchestra and Choir; Dance Society performed spectacularly with their very own 'For Our Future'. The new official anthem of the Meridian Republic - 'Vision to be Free' -writtened by the famed composer Mr Gustavus Gimel, was also played officially for the first time.
This future did not come easy, of course. Ever since the formation of Love Hephaestus Society(L.H.S.) five months ago, the population, under the leadership of the Council, had tried all means to regain the power to the people. With the help of many influential individuals including Mr Hephaestus himself, the transformation is finally complete. The grandeur of the event today is the best proof of the success.
As part of the rally speech given by President Cal in the name of the Council, she announced that in gratitude to the outstanding achievements and deeds Mr Hephaestus had done for the Republic, he shall be conferred the title Honorary Chancellor of the Republic. All Societies of the Republic will now be under the name of L.H.S. The Republic's Concert Band, for instance, will be officially called 'L.H.S.Concert Band'.
'It is only a ceremonial name,' claimed President Cal, when asked whether the societies were now under orders of L.H.S. 'Just like naming a theatre after a national hero.' The Council made it clear that Mr Hephaestus was to be a remembered leader to all who cherish the Republic's sovereignity.
Another declaration by the Council in the speech was compulsory participation of the Republic Conscript Force (RCF). This is targeted to all individuals who have obtained at least a silver in the NAPFA test, but did not pass the Intellectual Aptitude Test (I.A.T.). President Cal reasoned that since there are individuals who are physically fit, but are unable to perform intellectual tasks for the Republic, it is only logical that they be enlisted in the RCF to protect the Republic.
The RCF will be under the command the Provincial Magistrate Houses, and the House Committee members will necessarily be part of the hierarchy of the army. Subsequent generations of the Committees will be elected based on the members' positions in the RCF. This will be independent of the Council, which will be elected by the people of the Republic. However, the Council reserves all rights to interfere the activities of the RCF organisation, as Vice-President Lee is also assigned as the Minister of Defence and the Supreme Commander of the RCF. Apart from the RCF, the Council assigned a delegation of veterans previously from various elite armed forces to form the Republic Guards. Led by the experienced Commander Holisee, the Republic Guards are responsible for the safety of the members of the Council, and the order of the ruling body.
A crucial part to the new Republic, as told by President Cal, is the Senate, which comprises of members of the various Magistrate Houses. Being the secondary body of the Republic, their primary duties is to reflect upon the decisions the Council make, and be in charge of organising the annual Council elections. The Senate, however, cannot interfere with the Council's decision unless it is clearly against the constitution. More information are stated in the Constitution of the Republic, version 1.00a.
Representatives of Moe attended the celebration parade, and commented that this was ' the first step towards the autonomy of many states', and that this will be 'beneficial to the independent minds of the people'. As for the previous Triarchs (The Lion and the Mice), they will too be conferred honorary titles as 'Advisors to the Council', part of an agreement made by the Council and the Papal States of Moe.
A one-week holiday is declared by the President, after which the first Council meeting will be held. It is rumoured that the meeting's agenda is most probably about the election of the next council in a few months, and the primary nomination of potential candidates. President Cal dismissed the rumour, claiming that the candidates will volunteer to run the election, and elected by the people. The first Council meeting will only be about certain 'administrative matters'.
